This one had some hidden damage that goes way beyond what you can see from the street. Flashing and gutter problems had been quietly doing their thing for long enough that by the time we got on the roof, the rot had already worked its way into the deck and the siding. That's the thing about water intrusion - it doesn't stop at one layer.

We started by pulling everything off and replacing 10 sheets of OSB where the deck had rotted through. There's no point putting new shingles over a compromised deck. Once the surface was solid, we laid down CertainTeed RoofRunner underlayment across the full roof before staging the Landmark shingle bundles. That's the kind of prep work that actually makes a roof last.

With the deck repaired and the underlayment down, we installed the new CertainTeed shingles - a dark charcoal that ended up looking sharp against the home's light siding. At the same time, we matched in new steel siding to replace the rot-damaged sections and added fresh fascia along the roofline. Getting the siding to match cleanly on a repair job takes attention to detail, and this one came together well.

To close the whole job out, we ran new 5-inch seamless gutters along the roofline. That's not just a finishing touch - it's the part that keeps all of this from happening again. Gutters that fit the home properly and drain the way they should are what protect the roof edge, the fascia, and the siding below it. Bad gutters are often the first domino.

What started as a roofing call turned into a full exterior repair - and that's actually pretty common. Water finds the weak spots, and it rarely stops at just one. If your roof or gutters are showing signs of trouble, it's worth getting a set of eyes on it before that list gets longer.
