Skylight Swap and Chimney Reflash That Finally Stopped the Leaks

Two separate leak sources. One visit to fix both. That's exactly what this job came down to - an aging bubble skylight that had long outlived its usefulness, and a chimney that had been quietly letting water into the home every time it rained.

The old skylight was a classic acrylic bubble style. Yellowed, cracked, and no longer sealing the way it should. We pulled it out and dropped in a custom-fit Velux unit with proper flashing integrated around the frame. Velux makes units designed specifically for this kind of replacement, so the fit is clean and the seal is built to last - not a patchwork fix.

The chimney was a different story. The flashing had failed where the chimney meets the roof deck - one of the most common and most overlooked sources of water intrusion on any shingle roof. We stripped out the compromised material, prepped the surface, and installed new step flashing and counter flashing done right. You can see the clean, tight metal work wrapping the base of the chimney after completion. That's what proper leak repair looks like.

A lot of homeowners deal with ceiling stains or damp spots for months before calling anyone. By that point, water has usually been working its way through longer than they realize. Leak detection matters as much as the repair itself - knowing exactly where water is getting in keeps you from fixing the wrong thing. Both of these penetrations were confirmed entry points, and both got addressed the same day.
